Ascent Path

These graphics show the paths of the Delta II rockets for MER-A and MER-B during the ascent phase of the mission. Items shown are major staging events as the rocket ascends through the atmosphere, reaches orbit, and accelerates the spacecraft fast enough to escape Earth's gravity. Tracking stations at various points around the globe listen for the launch vehicle's signals to determine how fast it is going and if it is on course. Click the circles on the maps to learn more.
